Ethnic

I just came back from a couple of days of visiting my grandmother. She lives in the the picturesque village of Shiroka Luka where I've spent so many of my summers. It is such a beautiful place to grow up in. So today's post is a little different. What I am wearing is not a costume. It's an authentic dress that belonged to my great-great grandmother. A century ago, it's what they used to wear on special occasions in that part of Bulgaria. It consists of seven pieces - talk about layering! It's super heavy, a bit itchy, overall not too comfortable to wear so they definitely suffered a lot more for fashion than we do today :o). And their appreciation for it couldn't have been any lesser than ours judging from the intricate details such as the fine embroidery, opulent fabrics (lace, fur, velour) and jewlery. Fashion is a testament to one's philosophy and way of life. In this sense I very much enjoyed going back in time.

On a different note, I'm just about done with my summer break so I'll be back to regular posting in the next couple of days. Thank you for bearing with me :o).

Loves,

Vera

Such a gorgeous combination of colours, fabrics, and textures and proof that you can carry off anything.

You have such innate class and elegance - evident not only in your sartorial style, but also your style of writing and your keen observations. I look forward to your posts impatiently, but would never deny anyone the right to a holiday, especially when they are as charming and as beautifully captured as yours.x

different. But, interesting. I like it :)

It is in fact not quite the ordinary and standard dressing of female Bulgarians of that time and it hints of quite a good social status. It is very rich, the fur, the intricate embroidery, the lace, the coins and the top layer jacket's fabric show it. Not a work dress either. However I find it fascinating that it fits you so well as if it was made for you especially. Clap clap for the article lifted my mood for the rest of the workday :)

It made me also wonder if there is a dress I would let for generations after I am gone. You know something so special that would tell a story to the future women of my family.Do you have such dress?Maybe your mummy dress :)?
